My Old Painting

A few years ago I was shopping at pawn shops on kalibata street,Surabaya. I walked past the used bags shop and  then stopped at the used cameras shop. I looked at the cameras and then at some old lamps. I was looking for something that might be valuable.If I found something valuable, I would buy it cheaply and then resell it,perhaps to an antique dealer.but that day I didn’t see anything I wanted,so I started walking toward the door.then something caughy my eye.Hanging on the wall there was a very old painting.

I walked over for a closer look.The painting was covered with dust,so I borrowed a duster from the shop owner and cleaned the painting with is very carefully. It still looked very old thought a bit cleaner.This painting reminded me of the unique style used by a very famous painter from Yogyakarta. I turned the painting over and on the back somebody had put a price tag:RP.15.000.00. I was sure that the painting was worth more than fifteen thousand,so I bought it. I thought I would be able to sell it for Rp.50.000.00.

At home I clened the painting more thoughly. It looked much better when I hang it on the wall close to my computer table.The following day I invited Rinaldi,one of my friends,to have a look at the old painting.Rinaldi knew paintings more than I did,He was very excited when he told me that he could sell the painting for a high price. I was amazed when he said that he would pay me Rp.600.000.00 for the painting. I had expected to resell it for only five hundred thousand,hadn’t I ? That night,my friend gave me Rp.400.000.00 in cash and promised that he would pay the remaining Rp.200.000.00 within two weeks. At the end of the following wek I was Rp.600.000.00 richer because Rinaldi ket his promise.

Two weeks later news paper in Surabaya printed a hot news about a recovery of an old painting by Affandi.There was even a photograph of the painting.when I had a closer look at the photograph I was sure that it was the painting that Rinaldi bought from me for Rp.600.000.00. I was shocked,nervous and the at the same time angry when I read that Rinaldi had sold the painting for Rp.1.000.000.00.
